NARO Appoints New Leadership to Drive Agricultural Research and Innovation
The National Agricultural Research Organization has sworn in a new team of leaders charged with advancing scientific research, promoting innovation in crop and livestock production, and strengthening Uganda’s agricultural sector to ensure productivity, sustainability, and food security.

The National Agricultural Research Organization (NARO) has sworn in a new team of leaders tasked with advancing scientific research and innovation in Uganda’s crop and livestock sectors.

The ceremony took place at Golf View Hotel in Entebbe and was presided over by NARO Council Chairperson Fred Musiige.

Organized under the guidance of Dr Wilson Olaho Mukani, the swearing-in marks a renewed commitment to strengthening agricultural research and promoting sustainable farming practices nationwide.

Speaking at the event, Minister of Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries Hon. Frank Tumwebaze congratulated the newly appointed leaders and highlighted their critical role in transforming Uganda’s agriculture through modern research and technological solutions.

“These new leaders have a responsibility to ensure that our farmers benefit from modern, research-based technologies that improve productivity and sustainability,” Tumwebaze said.

“We expect them to promote scientific approaches that will enhance crop yields, livestock quality, and overall agricultural resilience.”

Dr Wilson Olaho Mukani expressed gratitude for the confidence placed in the new leadership, reaffirming their commitment to advancing Uganda’s agricultural development.

“We are honored to serve and to continue building an agriculture sector that supports Uganda’s growth and food security,” he said.

“We also urge the government to recognize and reward individuals who have shown exceptional dedication to agricultural advancement.”

The newly sworn-in leaders will oversee strategic research programs aimed at developing high-yielding crop varieties, improving animal genetics, and addressing challenges such as climate change, pests, and livestock diseases that continue to affect farmers.

As a key government agency under the Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries, NARO plays a central role in coordinating and implementing research initiatives that enhance productivity, innovation, and competitiveness in Uganda’s agricultural sector.

The new leadership is expected to accelerate Uganda’s vision of a modern, research-driven agricultural economy that supports sustainable growth and ensures food security for all.
